Southern Debutantes and European royalty had parlors in their homes. And I am a Southern gal with a “kingly” name, so I thought that “parlor” was fitting. According to Dictionary.com, a parlor is 1) a room for the reception and entertainment of visitors to one’s home; living room; 2) a room, apartment, or building serving as a place of business for certain businesses or professions; 3) a somewhat private room in a hotel, club, or the like for relaxation, conversation, etc.; lounge; or 4) Also called locutorium. a room in a monastery or the like where the inhabitants may converse with visitors or with each other. I like to think of The Parlor as a combination of #1 and #3, a place where I can entertain my friends, where they can come to relax and make conversation about the literature they enjoy.
I am married to a wonderful guy who I will refer to as “MK”. He also enjoys books and is very intelligent. I am amazed at his knowledge of the Bible and this world in general. He is a fitting counterpart and I love him dearly. We have a cat named Boo, who is very persnickety, but we love him anyway. And that’s our little family!

From one reader to another…I get the sense you like to read
What would you say is the most enjoyable book you’ve ever read and why?. If that’s too hard to answer, what would you say is the best book you’ve read this past year?
Like my musical tastes, there is an ebb and flow to the type of stuff I like.
“You are the same today as you’ll be in five years except for two things, the people you meet and the books you read.”
I (DM) believe that is so true…here’s another related quote I came across trying to find that quote by Jones:
“The books we read are often more powerful than the friends we meet, because every book has a philosophy of life that is either based on truth or error.”
Thanks for taking the time to comment on the blog today!
The best book I’ve read this past year, and I’m sad to say that it took me this long to read especially being an English major in college, was Fahrenheit 451. I really got into Ray Bradbury this year and bought a book compiled of his short stories. I also did not know he wrote a lot of the Twilight Zone episodes until about a year ago!
As for a favorite book of all time…that’s a really tough call. Some of my favorites over the years have been Of Mice and Men and East of Eden (can’t resist a good Cain and Abel story) by Steinbeck, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte (yes, I’m a sucker for a hopelessly romantic, sad-ending book), Angela’s Ashes by Frank McCourt, and pretty much anything by Max Lucado (I’m reading 3:16 right now). So, as you can see, my tastes are eclectic, like my music. That’s another post for another day.
Loved the quotes. Those are so true!
